Stereo Recievers
The nerve center of a typical, modern component audio system is a receiver. This single piece of equipment serves to select the audio source, tune radio stations, and power the loudspeakers. Making a really good receiver was hard enough back in the stereo-only days; now, in the surround-sound era, the task is an order of magnitude more challenging. Complex digital signal processing and five channels of amplification must be harnessed together in a package that is reasonably compact, cool-running, reliable, and easily operable by people other than those who designed it.
