ES90 is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Value I purchased these re-certified straight from Harman. Considering they shippped these beasts for free, it feels like I stole them from Harman they were so cheap. They are installed as the fronts in a 5.1 system about 8 feet from the listening position. I purchased them to round out the lower midrange and higher bass registers compared to my previous floor standers that only had 5.25" drivers. Mission accomplished, these speakers sound incredible. Came with very minor cosmetic damage near one of the feet and missing one bi-amp shorting plate. I really can't complain considering the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wish I Didn't Live In A NY Apt! I Want To Crank Em These are seemingly large out of the box, but once they were in position they blended in with the room great. The sound is great but it needs more power and a larger space to get the best out of them. They could be a slight bit better in the mids, but movies sound awesome. I went with JBL because of my experience with their live sound speakers and these can help give you that feeling, and the neighbors too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best speaker tower I ever purchased Buying two of these bad boys was the best investment I have ever made in home theater & audio. They perform well, even with only 75 W RMS to each channel (JBL recommends 110W RMS). My Denon Amp is a 75 W RMS x 4 (@ 8 ohms) and a 110 RMS x 4 (@ 6 ohms) so I was a little concerned when ordering that these speakers would be underpowered since they are rated at 8 ohms total impedance per tower. Not so. 75 W RMS is PLENTY of power especially for an apartment or condo, even though this is 35 W RMS below the recommended power. I've never even turned my amp all the way up to feed them the full 75 W RMS of power my amp is capable of delivering. The speakers are capable of taking much more just because of the fact that they are robust and meaty. The only time you would ever want to feed these things with full 110 W RMS is if you have a very large room with lots of people, like at a big party, and no neighbors within a block or two (to avoid noise complaints). I am a certified and professional degreed Audio Engineer and I recommend this to anybody looking for a pair of great towers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Speakers for the right room. I have been using these speakers for almost a year, and have only been happier with speakers when I bought my ADS L710's in 1974. The whole room rocks with a sub woofer that makes actions movies better at home than most Theaters. You need these speakers as the front speakers in a surround system , if you love movies. These speakers suck power, so you need over 100W of power. I am running 135W, and they can use more. Be careful as you may never want to leave your home. These are wonderful speakers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Audio Quality I have been using ES90 speakers for 2 weeks and I like how they sound. They have enough bass that I no longer use a powered subwoofer. The audio is clear even at very low volume.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from True to the brand name - GREAT! I do not generally do not do reviews but in the case I felt it was important to share my impressions of this speaker and the ES line. Years ago I had a set of JBL L100's which to this day I regret ever getting rid of. They were a great speaker and so are these. In many ways the ES80 reminds me of the L100's and in particular how clear the middle and high end notes and voices are heard. Others have commented that the they are power hungry and I would agree but the nicest thing is when you do turn the volume up they are not harsh and everything just gets clearer. I also purchased the center channel and sub in this line and combined create an excellent listening environment that you just can't go wrong with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hold on to your hat! These speakers will blow your hat right off your head! I am running them alone with my Yamaha rx-v677 for music mainly and i am SO impressed! Classical, rock, folk, etc. they are clear and impressive and do a much better job representing the sound than other speakers ive had. That said they are power hungry and also you need to feed them to truly realize how great they can be. As an added bonus they are great alone for movies and watching Top Gun youll feel like youre on the carrier deck. It was while doing this that i realized there are a few drawbacks, not with the speakers but with my wife... As my kids, the neighborhood kids, and I are watching with jaw dropping sound pouring out of the speakers she came home from the store. She was not as impressed as i was. I also notice that just watching tv at normal or lower volumes with these isnt really great. As you may expect youve got to give them some power to hear them perform. Dialog at low volumes is difficult to understand. I am planning to add two jbl bookshelve speakers as a 5.1 rears and have already purchased the es front center. Havent hooked that up yet but expecting great things! There may have been some quality issues with the factory for a bit. I noticed blemishes on the sid plates and also experienced the same issue with the nubs on the front screen. I went through 4 to get 2 that are perfect. Sent the others back. It was disappointing to have to deal with that since the box was bigger and heavier than my 2 children!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing speakers! I just got two of these for my 7.1 home theater system. I've used them for about a week and they sound perfect. They suck up power though so your gonna need a powerful amp to go along with it. It makes any movie I watch come to life with excellent highs, mids, and lows. These could easily be used in a stereo configuration without a sub woofer.

Hi there, I am using HK3490 stereo receiver and recently bought JBL ES90. I've done bi-wiring with QED cable. The thing is that, the vocals (mid) are quite narrow and sharp sounding. How can i get wide open rich vocals / mid. Please suggest. TIA.

Asked by: Shafquat
Assuming the unit is okay and the speakers are not damaged, there are a few things to check. 1. Check the polarity on the speakers wires at the back of the receiver and the back of the speakers. If any of the wires are reversed polarity, this will cause terrible sonic issues like he has described. 2. If he is boosting bass and/or treble, he should not have to do this with this receiver and speakers. Set the bass and treble in the middle. These two things should solve his problem. If you are still having issues with the unit, please contact the store that you've purchased the ES90 from. They should be able to assist you, or at least lead you to the people who can help.

What is the quality of tha recertified jbl ea90 speakers?

Asked by: hotrod58
Recertified products are products that have been returned to us by our dealers or retailers. These products have been thoroughly checked and tested to meet the high standards that are set by Harman Kardon. A recertified product contains the same features and functionalities as a new model, and we supply the same warranty with these products as with similar new ones. You may see some minor cosmetic imperfections, and perhaps the product has been repackaged, but you can be assured that these products will perform perfectly.

is ok to use a receiver with only 100 watts per channel

Asked by: Mikes
Absolutely. The wattage rating simply means that the speaker can handle UP TO x watts. A 100 watt receiver will be more than enough to drive these speakers.

Hello, was wondering if you could recommend a particular receiver to power two of these speakers?that way i can purchase somthing that will drive them as intended. Thanks

Asked by: Puddin
The ES90 speakers can handle up to 225 watts per channel. This means that any receiver with a power output of 225 watts per channel or less will work fine with these speaker. It really comes down to your listening preference. For example, if your listening taste only requires 30 watts per channel of power in order to be loud enough for you, there would be no reason to get a 225 watt per channel amplifier, as you will never use all of that power. The most important thing is to get a receiver that puts out enough volume for you, without exceeding the 225 watt limit of the speakers. Both receivers from our sister company, Harman Kardon, the HK3700 and HK3770, will do a fine job driving these speakers.
