The Studio 580 speaker is a perfect complement to other members of the Studio 5 Series, including the Studio 530 bookshelf and the Studio 520C center-channel loudspeakers. The Studio 580 features a 1-inch (25-millimeter) tweeter mounted on a glass-filled Bi-Radial® horn – the technology used in JBL concert sound systems – to deliver concise, sustained high frequencies. A pair of 6-1/2-inch (165-millimeter) PolyPlas™ cones with Symmetrical Field Geometry™ (SFG) magnet assemblies handle low frequencies.
Product Features:
  • 25 – 200 watts suggested amplifier power range
JBL engineers have designed the Studio 580 floorstanding loudspeaker to deliver robust, enveloping sound from a compatible AVR (audio/video receiver) or 25- to 200-watt power amplifier, whether you are using the Studio 580 as a stand-alone unit or as part of a surround-sound system.
  • Dual 6-1/2" (165mm) ribbed PolyPlas woofer cones
Powerful bass affects more than just your ears. It resonates through your entire body, creating a soundscape that you can feel as well as hear. The JBL Studio 580 floorstanding loudspeaker delivers accurate low-frequency sounds from a pair of 6-1/2-inch (165-millimeter) ribbed PolyPlas woofers. The ribs improve strength while reducing distortion. The result is rich, powerful, articulate bass.
  • Symmetrical Field Geometry (SFG) magnet assembly
Thanks to a heavy-duty magnet Symmetrical Field Geometry (SFG) assembly, the JBL Studio 580 floorstanding loudspeaker’s pair of low-frequency woofers delivers highly focused bass. The result is pristine, articulate sound that create an added sense of ambience.
  • 1" (25mm) high-frequency compression driver
The JBL Studio 580 floorstanding loudspeaker’s high-frequency compression driver lowers distortion and provides a wider dynamic range than is possible from conventional high-frequency and midrange drivers. The tweeter comprises a one-piece Teonex® diaphragm/surround assembly fitted with a 1-inch (25-millimeter) voice coil that can deliver enhanced vocal articulation.
  • Glass-filled ABS Bi-Radial high-frequency horn
Horn-shaped loudspeaker designs optimize high-frequency output by directing the sound to the listener with pinpoint accuracy, thereby eliminating reverberation, reflections off walls, and other artifacts. The Studio 580 floorstanding loudspeaker features a glass-filled ABS Bi-Radial high-frequency horn that delivers professional-level sound to your home.
  • Low-loss, two-way crossover network
The Studio 580 floorstanding loudspeaker’s low-loss, two-way crossover network ensures a clean transition for sound coming from individual low-frequency and high-frequency drivers, thereby reducing distortion while improving clarity.
  • Bi-wire capability
The Studio 580 floorstanding loudspeaker will work with multiple power amplifiers or connection setups – or both – for single-wire or bi-wire operation. The result is enhanced versatility in the ways you can use the Studio 580 speaker.
  • Sturdy 3/4" (19mm) MDF enclosure
The Studio 580 floorstanding loudspeaker’s cabinet is built with the same attention to perfection as every other component. Rigid, heavily braced materials prevent unwanted resonances, while non-parallel surfaces eliminate sound interference.
  • Exclusive design
The same attention to detail that went into the Studio 580 floorstanding loudspeaker’s technical design was paid to creating a powerful, sophisticated look that will fit within even the most discerning householder’s décor. The Studio 580 is available in a black or cherry finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Vocal After 30 years in the audio business, with a past history of the famed Altec 19 speakers, I can truthfully say that these are probably the most accurate sounding speakers I have ever owned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great speaker bought this on sale for $450 Thought it would be to small for what I wanted. turns out I was pleasantly surprised on how large the sound stage was on this speaker for only having 6 inch Drivers. Great deal for the price on sale. Decided to trade up to the 590 speakers when thy went on sale, didn't think there would be much difference. Boy what a difference in size and scale and sound stage was larger than most speakers that I have herd. great speaker for the money when on sale, you won't be disappointed. I know I wasn't.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Floorstander These speakers need 40-60 hours of breakin. After that they sound absolutely superb.Amazing sonics and build quality.I mostly use for stereo 2.1 music and have it paired with the great 550P sub.Must break these in before reaching any conclusions. They are a great value and play above there cost.

I am considering these or the 590's, they will be set up beside my 70" Led TV, seating distance is about 8 feet. Goldilocks question ... too big? ... too small? ... or just right? I haven't bought a receiver yet, waiting to see what the speaker set up is.

I ordered Studio 580 and the box says Li-Ion Battery inside. Could you tell me the spec for battery such as mAh and V, please?

Asked by: Yoshi
As this is a passive speaker, there is no battery. Li-Ion batteries are commonly used in portable speakers. If you need further assistance, please submit a case at www.jbl.com/support-contact.html and our Customer Service team will be glad to assist you.

Hello,  Studio 580 and HK 3770 Receicer what wire gauge I should use? Banana Plugs on both ends? What brands do you guys recommend? Thanks!

Asked by: Jraudsepp
14-16 gauge will work fine if you are running wires under 50 feet (15 meters). Anything generic brand from Best Buy or Amazon should do the trick. I personally use Pyle 16 gauge wires for my system.

Some JBL "pro" monitor speakers boasts smooth off-axis frequency response (e.g., M2, LSR305). Can I expect smooth off-axis response from Studio 580, too?

Asked by: eveningsmile
Usually speakers that use a horn design perform better off-axis because it spreads the sound in a wider array thus increasing the sound stage area itself. Consider a megaphone that sends sound to wider listening area. The JBL STUDIO 580 incorporates a horn-loaded compression driver, therefore it will perform well off-axis. If comparing the Studio 580s with that of the JBL M2's performance, then the M2 no doubt do a much better job(better speaker overall). The Studio 580 is floor-standing speaker which may perform better then smaller and less powerful PRO monitor (i.e. JBL Control 2P).

What is the difference in sound quality between JBL Studio 290 and JBL Studio 580? JBL Studio 580 are priced $200 more, does that mean they produce higher quality sound? Is one technically superior over another?

Asked by: smaudio
The 580 have the tweeter at 40 kHz for super hifi compared to 290 only at 22khz. I have the smaller set of the 230 bookshelf and thay sound good for the the 200 series. But to sum this answer up the 500 series are better but expensive. The 290 will give you good bass and nice rich highs for the lower cost. I love my 230's and would highly recommend the 290's for a good loud setup.

I'm looking to set up a surround sound system.  I know these 580's will pair nicely with the Studio 520c center channel, but what would you recommend for the surround speakers in the rear?

Asked by: BillW
Yes, the STUDIO 580 will pair nicely with STUDIO 520C and both will work wonderfully as a surround speakers, but being they are no longer available. A great next option would be the STUDIO 210, for your rears or your surround speakers.

Hello, can you please tell me: if i buy these speakers from the US; will they be compatible with the power source in Europe? also with an European amplifier? Do they require a converter? Can you tell me the weight of a pair? thanks!

Asked by: tc89
The STUDIO 580 speakers are passive loud speakers so they do not require power. Having that said, it should work without any issues when used in Europe and a European amplifier as long as your amplifier is compatible with the specifications of the STUDIO 580 speakers. These speakers can handle 200W of power so you need an amplifier that can drive that much power, or lower and your amplifier should be rated to handle 6ohm speakers. The weight of a pair is 48.9 lb (22.2 kg).
