Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Speaker! I had been waiting for the Playlist release from its announcement. I was looking for a Google Chromecast built-in speaker that would be used in our outside covered patio area to replace a JBL Clip with and Chromecast Audio dongle which lacked the power and was a bit messy with the wires. The Playlist was reasonably priced ($149 with fathers day sale) and had Bluetooth and a wired audio-in jack (which many of the competitors where missing) to supplement the dual band WiFi used for the Chromecast functions. The Playlist was easy to setup with the Google Home App. I also added it speaker groups (in the Google Home App) with no issues (my speaker group includes a couple of Chromecast Audios and the Playlist). The sound is phenomenal! Its loud and clear with no distorion even in the outside environment i am using it in and has nice bass response that is not overdone. In short it was exactly what I was looking for. The only improvement would have been a battery so it could be portable.... maybe a future Playlist2 would add that feature?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Awesome sound, BUT unreliable connectivity I was hugely excited when I found this product. I really love the JBL sound and own several of their portable speakers. This device didn't disappoint in that department - impressively strong bass presence in a small package. However, this is completely overshadowed by a poor implementation of Chromecast. It is generally unreliable and disconnects randomly. Sometimes I can't even get it to work without restarting it. This is very, very disappointing and I really hope this can be resolved soon. For now, this is going back to the store for a refund...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from BAD product This product is designed to promote Online music stations like Spotify, Google music and almost compel subscription, if you wish to use it as a normal bluetooth speaker , there is a problem of sound picture synchronisation. Plus the constant blinking of the wifi sign is a great source of irritation.I would suggest this speaker only for those people with a functioning wifi internet connection and a premium members of Spotify and like stations. The short electric cable on this device is also quite annoying. But the worst experience so far since i have purchased this item, is the repeated abrupt shuting downs. The speaker keep switching off by itself. I am feeling quite helpless at the moment.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Random connectivity issues, else great! Sound is fantastic, design ist great, but: - After setting up two JBL playlist speakers with Google Home app i get random disconnects while streaming from inside the app (Spotify, Deezer,...). When i use the Cast-Button from Quick-settings menu on my Android device it works better. - Sometimes after long standby both speakers are not visible immediately, they need several minutes to appear in cast devices list. This ist very annoying, if i want to listen to my radio station in the morning quickly. - I paired both speakers into a group "Living room" to play simultaneously, but often only one of two speakers awakes from standby and plays the stream. If i stream to one or the other speaker it works almost always, but for playback on both JBL speakers a reboot of my smartphones or tablet or the JBL speakers is required. My Android 8.x (Oreo) devices seem to have these connection issues more often. This seems to be a common problem according to google product user reports. The Google Cast-Firmware version is 1.21.75965, and seems to be dated. Maybe an update to newest 1.23.xxxxx may help, but no update available. If my JBL Chromecast built-in speakers would work with a reliable connection, i'd give them 5 stars minimum, therefore hoping for a software fix.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good sound, but unusable with video or games The sound is good, though the dalay in both bluetooth or chromecast mode is very noticable. It is impossible to use this speaker with movies or videogames, since the picture is always out of sync.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just a masterpiece! I got my Playlist delivered a few days ago and, to be honest, even from the packaging I considered that the stuff will do much for me in the practice. I really started enjoying listening to Chromecast audio with this speakers, not only that, with charming crystal-clear audio quality and studio-filler bass entity.

Hello, is there a pilot to connect my laptop to the speaker? The PC sees the speaker, but it doesn't play any sound... and if I "cast" via wifi there is a sound latency so it's not ideal.

Hi there, I am planning to buy the JBL Playlist, for now I cast most of the time using the google chrome cast attached to my TV and having the sound from my TV speaker. Is it possible to View on my TV and having the sound on My JBL speaker when I cast?

Asked by: DES09
Unfortunately we can't answer this. This is a question for your TV manufacturer or whatever source they are using to cast to your TV. If you are using a source, and the source is able to cast to 2 units at once, the TV for video and the speaker for audio, then it will work. It's up to the source component.

Hi. May I ask up to how many JBL Playlist can be linked? is this the same technology that Harman Kardon product uses (Omni 10, Omni 20 and Omni Adapt)?

Asked by: MHEI
They have a lot of similar qualities, but the JBL Playlist was primarily designed as a Chromecast speaker that can also be used with apps such as Spotify, Pandora, Google Play Music, TuneIn and iHeartRadio. It can also connect to any device via Bluetooth or 3.5mm.

Can two JBL Playlists be configured as separate stereo left and right speakers.....via Chromecast?

Asked by: TLaz
They can be grouped to play simultaneously, but not in stereo mode for each device. Both play stereo, but both devices left and right channel at the same time. Does NOT play left channel on JBL Playlist 1 only and right channel on JBL playlist 2 only.

When I start play music via Spotify Connect music starts but after several seconds there is only silence for several seconds and after that music plays again. When I use Google Cast (from Spotify or any other app) there are no issues. What the problem?

Asked by: jbltester
I believe for Spotify 'Connect' to work you must have a paid subscription to Spotify. It will not work properly for a free account.

Do you still need to buy a google chromcast audio with this?

Asked by: Dave Sc
No, Chromecast is built in to this speaker allowing you to play music from numerous sources via apps that support the google 'Cast' function (Pandora, iHeart Radio, TuneIn, Google Play Music, etc.)
